McDonough Site Jonesboro Rd

                                               Survey 1987

The property going west on Jonesboro Rd. Just east of the railroad and south of Jonesboro Rd was examined in 1987 by members of our group. The low lying area just before the old house was examined. Some Civil War era items were found indicating this area was likely a camp for General Wheelers men in 1864. They used metal detecting devices and some screening when possible.

Artifacts found

10 dropped .69 cal balls
5 dropped .58 cal bullets
2 Confederate buttons
1 Kepi hook
2 iron picket pins

The items were tagged and sent to be examined.

The items proved to be of a CSA camp and likely from when Gen. Wheeler occupied the area for the night.
