| "Timber Ridge Church Civil War Site"
Surveyed 1979 Our group conducted a survey just east of where the Timber Ridge Church on Hwy 20 NE of McDonough. According to research the Union soldiers of the 17th Corps were also at this site in November 1864. The soldiers were a brigade from General Blair's 17th Corps. The soldiers tore the old church down for firewood as the weather was cold. This was similar to the action taken at Old Sharon Baptist Church on Turner Church Road. On a site just about 2000 feet east of where the church is today a few artifacts from the Civil War were discovered. The site was typical of the campsites found across the region from the period.
