Henrys Gold Mines
Before the Civil War Era there was the Gold Rush in Georgia of the 1830s to the early 1850s. Gold had been discovered across northern Georgia especially in the zone across the area around Dahlonega. There were two gold mines in Henry County. The first being a placer mine on Walnut Creek near where Hwy 155 is today. The second was a prospect mine on Walnut Creek just north of Turner Church Rd. just west of the Church.
It is not known how much gold these two sites produced.
They are marked on a map of today indicating the area’s where these gold mining operations were in progress before the Civil War. |
