The Paving of Hwy 42

The Hwy 42 from the Clayton County line to the Butts County line was paved in 1931.  This opened
a paved road system from Atlanta to Macon.  Governor Russell
came to McDonough to praise the people for making progress during the Great Depression.  By
1934, the road would carry the Greyhound bus service.  The paving of this road would be a vital link
to the outside world for Henry County.  This would give the  county an avenue to ship their farm
goods easier.
