The Atlanta Pop Festival Everyone knows about the Woodstock , NY Rock and Roll festival of 1969. But Georgia and Henry County had it’s turn at having a Pop Festival at the Atlanta International Raceway in Hampton on July 4, 1969. The “Hippies” came in swarms from all around.
A crowd estimated at 130,000 people showed up to hear 23 groups of singers. Poor planning of the unexpected crowd made the audience very uncomfortable in the sweltering heat of July inside the raceway. There were many activities that were not well received that occurred. These were drug use, sex, and lewd behavior. There was much confusion at this festival.
