President Eisenhower and Henry County

There are a couple of connections to President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Henry County. In 1959,
Chief Warrant Officer John Patterson who was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Patterson of
McDonough was chosen to be one of the eight helicopter pilots to carry the President on his world tour
he made.  Warrant Officer Patterson flew the H-34 helicopter in Germany.  And we had Dr. Mac
Carmichael who was the senior resident of medicine at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington
where the former President was cared for at the time of his death.  This brought the sorrowful time a
little closer to home.
